Grandpa Bernardus Goedemans was a maintenance worker. He worked for a dry cleaning firm were he took care of the machinery that washed and iron clothes.
His inlaws, Great Grandfather Jan Prinssen - Great Grandmother Barbara Velsen - Prinssen
were a financially well to do family however when Grandpa Goedemans decided to marry Grandma Theodora Johanna Prinssen against their wishes the Prinssen family  disassociated themselves from their daughter and her family. They did not want to help them in any way, shape or form.  They did not even helped when Grandpa Goedemans became deathly ill while living in the attic. It was there where he died on November 5th 1918.

Our Grandma Prinssen-Goedemans was left  alone with seven children - Jacob, Henk, Jan, Arie, Barbara (my Mom), Marie, and Annie.

 Our Grandma Prinssen-Goedemans never re-married and died of stomach cancer on October 5th, 1939 at the age of 55 in Hilversum, Holland

They had seven kids until Grandpa Goedemans died during the worldwide sickness called the Black Plague - or Spanish Flu, he was only 37 years old.

After the death of Grandpa Goedemans our Grandma was alone and had to take care of seven children. She worked long, hard hours to feed and cloth them all.  There was no indication in her history that the Bernardus Goedemans family received any family assistance or help except 10 guilders a month from the Catholic church.

Grandma Goedemans did not like Great Grandma Prinssen to much, so the Prinssen family left Grandma Prinssen-Goedemans strictly alone to take care of her self and her seven children. Somehow in their past they had became bitter enemies.
